What is AMD? 

An Advance Medical Directive (AMD) is

• a legal document

• signed by a person in advance

• to indicate that he does not wish to have any extraordinary life-sustaining treatment to prolong his life

• in the event if he becomes terminally ill and unconscious.

What does AMD has to do with Estate Planning?

In Estate Planning, you are planning in advance the distribution of your assets.  You want to make sure that your loved ones are taken care of, with enough  assets left behind for them.

However, the assets that you intended for your loved ones, may be instead spent on prolonging your own life, in the event of you becoming "terminally ill & unconscious", thus going against your wishes to leave behind sufficient for them.
